The firm’s work in the 110th and the 111th Congress on behalf of its clients has met with remarkable success. Some of the specific outcomes that have been achieved during the last two years include:

  • Murphy arranged a meeting with client National Urban League President, Marc Morial, with Rep. John Yarmuth (D, KY).
    Representing our client at the White House Fiscal Responsibility Summit
  • Successfully persuading Congressional leaders to hold oversight hearings
  • Helping to organize two human rights conferences – one sponsored by the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights and one sponsored by the Center for American Progress
  • Securing face-to-face meetings with Democratic and Republican members of Congress, including House and Senate leaders of both parties and Committee and Subcommittee chairs
  • Arranging and providing guidance on the agenda for meetings with President Obama’s transition members
  • Providing guidance and helping to set agendas for client meetings with the Department of Labor, White House staff and Administration officials, and accompanying clients to those meetings when needed
  • Murphy organized an energizing seminar on human and civil rights for her client, the Campaign for a New Domestic Human Rights Agenda, with the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights on March 19, 2009.     Enlisting certain members of Congress to cease opposition to specific tax measures that would hurt the profitability and job creation abilities of clients
  • Building support for women and minority business opportunities in federal bail-out legislation
  • Finding champions in Congress to introduce, publicly endorse, co-sponsor, and vote for legislation affecting job training, housing counseling, civil rights and civil liberties
  • Coalition development with allies creating new and unique partnerships concerning the issues of housing, job training and criminal justice reform
  • Strengthening federal grant applications so that they are more likely to succeed
  • Enlisting Congressional support for targeted funding and report language in appropriations measures
  • Drafting legislation to better serve crime victims and provide resources for law enforcement

    Drafting language for housing and economic recovery legislation
  • Creating opportunities for clients to testify at congressional hearings
  • Persuading members of Congress to hold oversight hearings
  • Generating opportunities for clients to moderate Congressional town hall meetings
  • Arranging briefings and congressional meetings for client board members
  • Drafting letters to members of Congress and distilling them to talking points
  • Drafting "white papers" to use as lobbying and public education tools
  • Helping clients raise their visibility and improve messaging in print, web-based and television media
  • Leading a team of lobbying consultants to develop legislative goals for clients
